Gopal Khemka Murder Case: Accused, Who Supplied Weapon To Shooter, Killed In Police Encounter In Patna

In a major development in the Gopal Khemka murder case, an accused was killed in a police encounter on Monday night. The accused, identified as Vikas alias Raja, had reportedly supplied the weapon to the shooter to kill the businessman in Patna.

Patna: An accused in the murder of Bihar businessman Gopal Khemka was killed in a police encounter on Monday night. The accused, identified as Vikas alias Raja, had supplied the weapon to the shooter to kill the businessman in Patna, reported Indian TV.

Reports claimed that Raja opened fire on cops during a raid. The police retaliated strongly. The gunfight took place in the Malsalami area of Patna.

Earlier on Monday, the police arrested two people in connection with the Gopal Khemka murder case. One the arrested accused has ben identified as Umesh. As per reports, it was Umesh who opened fire on the Bihar businessman.

"Both persons have been held in Patna by a joint team of Special Task Force and Patna Police. The investigation is in progress. We will be able to divulge more details in due course," a police officer told news agency PTI.

Notably, Khemka was also associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was shot dead outside his residence in Patna by a bike-borne assailant at 11.40 pm on Friday, July 4. The businessman was killed seven years after miscreants had gunned down his son in Hajipur. The incident had taken place near the gate of Khemka's house in the Gandhi Maidan locality.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a meeting to review the law and order situation in the state on Saturday during which he instructed officials to complete the investigation at the earliest, officials said. So far, three people have been arrested in connection with the murder.

The murder, which took ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls, triggered a political storm in the state with opposition parties are targeting the Nitish Kumar government over the law and order situation.

Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the incident has once again proven that the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have together made Bihar the "crime capital of India".

Gandhi also asserted that in the upcoming assembly polls, the vote will not be just to change the government, but to save the state.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also lashed out at the state government.
