Ghaziabad: CBI Raids Premises Of Senior Passport Official Over Massive Wealth Surge; Officials Recover ₹60 Lakh Cash: Report

The CBI registered a case against Senior Passport Superintendent Deepak Chandra on March 25 for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets. Investigations reveal his wealth grew by 146.43% between July 2018 and 2024. The sharp rise in his wealth has raised suspicions of corruption.

Ghaziabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Tuesday, March 25, registered a case against Senior Passport Superintendent Deepak Chandra, posted at the Regional Passport Office in Ghaziabad, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his usual income. Investigations also reveal that Chandra’s wealth grew by 146.43% between July 2018 and 2024, further raising suspicion of corruption.

CBI Recovers Cash and Property Documents

In response to the allegations, CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch conducted raids at multiple locations linked to Chandra, including his Ghaziabad residence in Rajnagar Extension. Additionally, the officials recovered Rs 60 lakh in cash, along with several documents related to bank deposits, mutual funds, and property purchases.

Further searches were also carried out at his premises in Patna, where the agency seized key financial documents, including details of LIC investments and vehicle registrations. As per reports, preliminary findings indicate that Chandra’s assets increased by Rs 85 lakh over six years, far exceeding his declared income.

CBI Probes Unexplained Wealth

The CBI is now probing into the source of Chandra's wealth and possible links to corrupt practices. As per reports, officials are examining his financial records and investment patterns to determine if illicit means were used to accumulate the additional wealth.

Further legal action may follow based on the findings.
