Guwahati: Ahead of 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Monday appointed Deputy Leader of Lok Sabha Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi as the new president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, replacing Bupen Kumar Borah.
Gaurav Gogoi is the son of former Assam Chief Minister late Tarun Gogoi, succeeds Bhupen Kumar Borah, who has been entrusted with the role of Chairperson of the APCC Campaign Committee ahead of the upcoming elections.
The newly appointed Working Presidents of the APCC are: Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Roselina Tirkey and Pradip Sarkar. Interestingly Sikdar was also working president during Bhupen Bora's tenure and represents minority communities, In a related move, Roselina Tirkey represents tea garden community has been relieved of her current responsibilities as AICC Secretary to focus on her new role within the state unit. Pradip Sarkar belongs to Hindu Bengali community.
The Congress leadership has also announced appointments to key committees to steer the party’s electoral preparations in Assam.
The party has expressed gratitude for the contributions of the outgoing president, Bhupen Kumar Borah and made him Campaign Committee Chairperson.

This reshuffle signals a strategic move by the Congress to strengthen its organisational structure in Assam ahead of crucial electoral battles.
With Gogoi's appointment as the new Assam Congress chief, the party has made it clear that the next assembly election will be fought under his leadership and he is likely to be its chief ministerial face in the state.
