Flood-Like Situation In Gujarat's Surat After Heavy Rains, Several Vehicles Submerged (VIDEOS)

Surat: Heavy rains lashed Gujarat's Surat throwing normal life out of gear on Monday. Flood-like situation erupted in several parts of the city. Waterlogging led to traffic disruptions.

Flood water even entered apartments on the ground floor. Several vehicles were submerged in the water. Notably, netizens are comparing the current situation with the 2006 floods in the city.

Flood-Like Situation In Surat:

Schools in Surat have declared a holiday amid the flood-like situation in the city. Among the worst affected area of the city are - Dabholi and Varachha. Several videos of waterlogging surfaced online, showing the plight of the locals.

Meanwhile, in the Valsad district of the state, a van was reportedly swept away by the turbulent Kharela River.

The monsoon continued its aggressive spell across Gujarat. A total of 159 talukas having received light to heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. According to data released by the State Emergency Operations Centre, Jodiya in Jamnagar district recorded the highest rainfall at 7.17 inches, followed by Mendarda (5.7 inches), Amirgadh (5.0 inches), Keshod (4.9 inches), Kalavad (4.6 inches) and Palsana (5.6 inches), reported IANS.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rain activity, issuing a yellow alert for Amreli, Bhavnagar, Navsari, Valsad, Botad, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Vadodara, Anand, Bharuch, and Panchmahal districts. Additionally, districts, including Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Tapi, Surat, Dang, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Kheda, Rajkot, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Chhota Udepur, and Narmada, are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with district administrations on alert for possible waterlogging, flash floods, and disruptions to transport and infrastructure.

Disaster response teams, including NDRF and SDRF units, have been strategically deployed in vulnerable regions, especially those under orange and red alerts, reported IANS.

As per the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places with extremely heavy falls recorded at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region. Meanwhile, extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm/24 hours) took place at isolated places over Gujarat State on June 22.
