Kharagpur: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in West Bengal Dilip Ghosh has been embroiled in a controversy following a heated argument with a woman protester. The video of Ghosh's confrontation with the woman in Kharagpur is doing rounds on social media. In the video, Ghosh could be heard saying that he would choke her.
The BJP leader went to Kharagpur to inaugurate a newly built road in Ward number 6. However, a group of local women confronted him. Notably, Kharagpur is part of the Medinipur Lok Sabha seat. Ghosh was the Medinipur seat in the 2019 general elections.
Video Of The Incident:
The BJP leader lost temper when the woman protester asked him about his absence from the constituency during his tenure as the MP. "Where were you all this time? We didn't see you even for a day when you were an MP. Now, after our councillor (Pradip Sarkar of the Trinamool) has built the road, you're here?" the woman asked Ghosh.
He responded to the question aggressively and accused the protesters of being a support of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). "I have built it with my money, not your father's money. Go and ask Pradip Sarkar about it," Ghosh replied.
After the BJP leader's response, another woman protester said "Why bring up our father? You were an MP, can you talk like this?" Soon the matter escalated as Ghosh threatened the woman to choke her.
"Don't scream. I will choke you. I had given money for this from my MPLAD fund when I was a parliamentarian," he threatened the protesters Ghosh said as reported by NDTV. He also called the protesters called them "Trinamool's dogs"
After the altercation, the woman protesters reportedly surrounder Ghosh's car. An additional police team was called from the Kharagpur police station was called to control the situation.
The incident has drawn flak from the ruling Trinamool Congress, who accused Ghosh of using his position to intimidate ordinary citizens.
In an X post, Ghosh said, "In Bhabanipur, Ward 6 of Kharagpur, a concrete road was inaugurated at a cost of ₹2.6 lakh from the MP fund. The area is quite low-lying, often leading to waterlogging. So this road will improve their living condition."
Dilip Ghosh's Tweet:
"Although the municipality was responsible for this work, but they failed to fulfill their duty. Subsequently, we took the initiative to construct the road using the MP fund. Today, during the inauguration, the local TMC people created a ruckus," he added.
