New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a fierce attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, accusing it of tampering with voter lists in Delhi to sway the upcoming state assembly elections.
Addressing the media, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP has been conducting a systematic campaign, which he termed 'Operation Lotus,' since December 15 to alter the electoral landscape. He claimed that the BJP has been strategically adding and deleting voters in key constituencies to manipulate the election outcome.
"In my New Delhi assembly constituency, their 'Operation Lotus' has been active since December 15. In just 15 days, they have filed applications to delete 5,000 votes and add 7,500 new ones," said Kejriwal. Highlighting the scale of these alleged manipulations, he remarked, "Why even hold elections if you're tampering with approximately 12% of the total voters in an assembly constituency? This is not democracy; it's a kind of game being played in the name of elections."
BJP Deleting Votes From List: Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the BJP had attempted to delete 11,800 votes in the Shahdara constituency alone. However, the move was halted following intervention by the Election Commission of India (ECI), he said.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that during the Election Commission's summary revision on October 29, approximately 1 lakh voters were added to the New Delhi constituency. However, he alleged that the BJP’s claims of irregularities in 12% of these newly added votes cast doubt on the credibility of the Election Commission itself.
The BJP has yet to respond to these allegations. With assembly elections on the horizon, the accusations have added another layer of tension to the political climate in Delhi.
