BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda will be consulting PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the fate of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, 49, this weekend, armed with a report by the party’s national general secretary BL Santhosh, an RSS main in-charge of organisation, who returned to Delhi after a 2-day trip to Lucknow to assess the political situation in UP for the Assembly elections due early next year.

Santhosh, who went to Lucknow, along with the party’s UP in-charge and national vice-president Radha Mohan Singh, submitted their report to Nadda on Wednesday. Both had separate one-to-one meetings with the state’s senior ministers on Monday and then had a lengthy interaction with deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma to know their views on the BJP’s poll prospects and suggestions on the strategy to retain power in UP.

Maurya told reporters in Lucknow after the meeting with Santhosh and Singh in the state BJP headquarters “the exercise is to streamline working for the next elections,” exuding confidence the BJP would win over 300 seats in the 2022 election of the 403-member Assembly.

He skipped a pointed question of if Yogi will lead the party in this election.
