New Delhi: As of 20 June 2025, India has reported a total of 5,608 active COVID-19 cases, reflecting a change of 368 cases since the previous day. A cumulative total of 18,256 individuals have recovered, with 1,092 discharges reported since January 2025. There have been a total of 120 deaths, including four new deaths since yesterday.

Andhra Pradesh holds 44 active cases, while Arunachal Pradesh reports none. Assam and Bihar have 32 active cases each. Delhi continues to have a significant number of cases with 630 active ones and has recorded 16 deaths since January. Gujarat remains one of the heavily affected states with 912 active cases.

Kerala reports the highest cumulative recoveries at 6,083, though it has recorded one death yesterday. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu follow closely, with respective active cases of 389 and 176. States like Goa, Mizoram, and Nagaland have minimal active cases.

West Bengal is awaiting updated COVID-19 data. The condition of severe cases causing deaths has been outlined, with underlying health issues contributing to fatalities in Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Punjab.

The overall situation reflects variances in case loads and recovery across different states. Delhi reports one death of a 75-year-old male with lung cancer. Kerala has a 76-year-old female with comorbidities. Maharashtra notes a 66-year-old female on dialysis. Punjab reports an 82-year-old male with multiple critical conditions. West Bengal's COVID-19 data is pending.

WHO Identifies New COVID-19 Variant

Covid variant NB.1.8.1, or Nimbus, is under monitoring by WHO due to rising cases in India, exceeding 7,000 active infections and over 70 deaths. Though symptoms include severe sore throat, fever, and cough, it may not be more severe than prior variants. Found in multiple countries, it comprised nearly 11% of sequenced cases globally by mid-May. Current vaccines remain effective. India sees a decline in cases, with advisories for public health behaviors and ongoing monitoring of variants.
