Janata Dal United (JDU) leader and Union Minister Lalan Singh alias Rajiv Ranjan Singh came under the eye of controversy after he referred to United Nations-designated "global terrorist" Masood Azhar as "Masood Azhar Sahab" during his speech while participating in a discussion on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack in Lok Sabha on Monday.
The Congress party was quick to latch on to Lalan Singh's remarks and shared a 20-second clip on X, in which he can be seen saying "saikadon aatankwadi shaheed huye" (hundreds of terrorists martyred).
"Aap sab ne dekha hoga, jo aatankwadiyon ke aaka the wo ro rahe the. Masood Azhar Sahab...(You must have seen, the masters of terrorists were crying...Masood Azhar Sahab)"
"This is the mentality of Narendra Modi's minister," the Congress party wrote.
Congress Spokesperson Alok Sharma hit out at Lalan Singh and in an X post wrote, "Now, will anyone's sentiments be hurt, will any media channel debate on this?"
The clip has gone viral on social media with many users questioning the need for respect being given to a terrorist who plotted several attacks and executed many on Indian soil.
