Congress Distances Itself From Sam Pitroda's 'Threat From China' Ramark

Alleging that the Centre is not allowing the issue to be discussed in Parliament, the Congress leader said, "It is also extremely regrettable that Parliament is being denied an opportunity to discuss the situation and express a collective resolve to meet these challenges effectively."

The Congress party on Monday distanced itself from Overseas Congress chairman Sam Pitroda's remark in which he said "the threat from China is often blown out of proportion."

In an X post, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh stated, "The views reportedly expressed by Mr. Sam Pitroda on China are most definitely NOT the views of the Indian National Congress."

Highlighting the party's stand on China, Jairam Ramesh said, "China remains our foremost foreign policy, external security, as well as economic challenge. The INC has repeatedly raised questions on the Modi Govt's approach to China, including the PM's public clean chit to it on June 19, 2020. Our most recent statement on China was on 28th January, 2025."

Alleging that the Centre is not allowing the issue to be discussed in Parliament, the Congress leader said, "It is also extremely regrettable that Parliament is being denied an opportunity to discuss the situation and express a collective resolve to meet these challenges effectively."

The damage control from the Congress party comes after Sam Pitroda, in an exclusive interview with the news agency IANS, speaking on India's relationship with China, said, "Our attitude is that of confrontation from day one, and that attitude creates enemies, and that creates certain support in the country. I think we need to change that pattern to assume that China is the enemy from day one. It is not just to China, but to everyone..."

"I don't know what is the threat from China. I think this issue is often blown out of proportion because the US has the habit of defining an enemy," he added.

The BJP has criticised Sam Pitroda's recent comments on China. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari in an X post slammed Pitroda, stating, "Rahul Gandhi's right-hand man Sam Pitroda: 'China isn't our enemy'! This man sings endless praises of China while the Congress party's signing of MoU in 2008 reveals a cozy betrayal of India's interests & prioritizing China's! It's crazy how Congress always manages to keep China & Pakistan's interests above ours!"

"Rahul Gandhi's remote control is in the hands of George Soros and China. What a shame!" he said.
