Raipur: On the eve of Maha Shivratri, prisoners languishing in the five central jails, 20 district jails and eight sub-jails of Chhattisgarh have taken holy dip in the Ganga water on Tuesday at Mahakumbh-2025 Snan Kund (Bath Tank) made in their respective jail premises. Around 18,000 jail inmates took advantage of holy baths in order to have spiritual cleansing and awakening.
The jail administration made arrangements for the holy bath. The government has made provision of one pot of Ganga water for each prisoner. The water has been brought from Prayagraj Sangam. To provide an opportunity for a holy bath, the jail administration created a pool and the pot of water was poured into it.
Prisoners expressed they wanted to have a holy bath and the arrangements were made accordingly. Moreover, during the inspection of jails by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, the prisoners had expressed their desire to take a bath with Ganga water of Mahakumbh. Keeping in view the wishes of the prisoners, the Home Minister ordered Ganga Jal for the prisoners lodged in the jails of the state. By Sunday, Ganga water was delivered to all the districts.
The tanks of the jail were cleaned and painted for bathing in the Ganges. 'Mahakumbh bathing pool' was written in the tanks. The tanks were decorated with flowers, then a Kalash Gangajal was poured. After having bath prisoners expressed their happiness and thanked the administration for providing the opportunity.
