Chennai: A college student riding pillion on a bike was killed after being deliberately run over by a luxury car. As per reports, police officials suggested that the targeted attack was linked to a love triangle.
The shocking incident took place in Chennai on Monday, July 28. So far, three students have been arrested in the case, including the grandson of DMK councillor. The fourth accused is absconding.

A Case of Love Triangle
What initially appeared to be a tragic road accident, turned out to be a premeditated act of violence, the police said. According to investigators, tensions had erupted between two groups of college students over a relationship involving a girl and two young men. The DMK councillor’s grandson, identified as Chandru, was reportedly asked to mediate in the matter.
Instead, Chandru and three others set out in a Range Rover to confront their rivals. Two bikes carrying the other group sped away in different directions. While their intended target, Venkatesan, managed to escape, the SUV chased down the second bike and rammed it. Nithin Sai, 19, who was riding pillion, died on the spot due to serious head injuries. His friend Abhishek, who was driving the two-wheeler, was injured.
DMK Responds, Dismisses Political Angle
All four accused are students and have been booked for murder along with other relevant sections. While three are in custody, police are searching for the fourth occupant of the vehicle.
The ruling DMK distanced itself from any political affiliation in the case. “Many who are arrested in such crimes are from the BJP and AIADMK. It is a social issue and not a political issue,” DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan told NDTV. “But they want to accuse the state government. If we let off the BJP and AIADMK criminals, they might be happy,” he added.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
