Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): The Maha Kumbh 2025 in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, a grand spiritual gathering drawing millions to the Triveni Sangam, has faced widespread criticism due to disruptions caused by VIP movements. While the event is meant to be a time of peace and devotion, the experience has turned chaotic for many pilgrims, as access to key areas was frequently restricted to accommodate dignitaries.

Numerous videos circulating on social media showed agitated devotees expressing their frustration at the inconvenience. Roads leading to the Sangam were seen divided, one side packed with pilgrims struggling to move, while the other was cleared for VIPs. This disparity sparked outrage, with many criticising the UP government for poor crowd management.

Akhilesh Yadav Reacts To VIP Culture At Maha Kumbh

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also voiced his discontent. Sharing videos of crowds struggling to reach the Sangam, Yadav urged the administration to prioritise the needs of the pilgrims over VIP arrangements. “The government should ensure smooth transport for pilgrims instead of creating difficulties due to VIP protocols. The Maha Kumbh should be about special arrangements for the devotees, not the dignitaries,” Yadav wrote on X.

He further emphasized the importance of treating this event with a spirit of service rather than self-promotion, urging the government to provide better facilities for both pilgrims and officials working tirelessly to manage the event.

Special Arrangements For Mauni Amavasya

Despite these challenges, the UP government has introduced several measures to manage the massive turnout. With Mauni Amavasya on January 29 expected to attract 8-10 crore devotees, VIP protocols will be suspended that day to ensure equal access for all.

The government has declared the area a no-vehicle zone from January 27-30 to facilitate pedestrian movement. Additionally, over 50,000 police personnel and 2,750 AI-based CCTV cameras have been deployed for security, while 150 special trains are operating to streamline pilgrim transit.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 14, 2025, has already witnessed a staggering turnout of over 10 crore devotees within a week, including 3.5 crore on Makar Sankranti.
