Jaipur: An incident of chain-snatching of an elderly woman, who was returning home after visiting a Jain temple, has come to light from Rajasthan's Jaipur. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at around 7.45 pm, when two bike-borne miscreants snatched the gold chain from her neck.
The criminals first threw chilli powder in her eyes, and as they tried to pull the chain from her neck, according to Aaj Tak. The woman fell onto the road. The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.
Sushila had undergone an eye operation some time ago and was wearing glasses. Fortunately, the glasses prevented the chilli powder from entering her eyes.
The footage shows two miscreants waering helmets approaching the woman on a bike as she walks along the road. One of them dismounts and attempts to snatch the chain from her neck. The woman struggles to hold onto it and falls to the road during the scuffle, but the robber eventually breaks the chain, runs back to the bike, and both thieves flee the scene. Two bystanders can be seen running in an attempt to catch the robbers. But by then it was too late.
The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Sushila Devi. During the scuffle she suffered a scratch on her neck.
Police Action
The police is trying to trace the miscreants on the basis of CCTV footage. However, the bike's number is not clearly visible in the CCTV footage.
