Patna: Speculation over Bihar chief minister and JD (U) president Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar contesting assembly polls has started gaining credence as a party MP appealed to him to try his luck from a seat  in Nalanda.

JD (U) MP Kaushalendra Kumar, who has represented Nalanda Lok Sabha constituency for four consecutive terms, told newspersons in Patna that people were keen to see Nishant entering into the politics, as he was a nice as well as also an educated person. He also said that he would leave no stone unturned to ensure the victory of Nishant from any seat, but he would like to see him contesting election from Islampur seat in Nalanda district.  He said that he could only wish for a youth like Nishant to join politics, as a new generation should come forward, and take over the charge. He said that Nishant had all capabilities to lead the JD (U).

“I support people`s views that Nishant should contest the election, as they keep requesting me to motivate him to join the politics, and enter the electoral politics. People from Nalanda are in particular demanding Nishant`s entry into politics,” Kaushalendra, known for his proximity with Nitish, added.

Nishant will give a young leadership

With Nitish apparently in the twilight of his political career, JD (U) would like to pass  on the baton to the next generation. Nishant can take command of the party as it would not create any resentment among party`s senior leaders, commented a political analyst Indrajit Singh.

"There will be a leadership vacuum in the JD (U) once Nitish retires from active politics one day, and in such a  situation Nishant would be the best choice to fill the void. Like Nitish, Nishant is also an engineer, and is also known for his leaning towards spirituality. Of late, he started interacting with reporters, requesting people to make his father CM for another term as he has done good work for Bihar. He also once appealed to the NDA to declare his father, Nitish, the chief ministerial candidate for the assembly election.

Nitish has been a vocal opponent of dynastic politics, and never minced his words while targeting RJD chief Lalu Prasad for allegedly promoting his family instead of  working for the development of the state. Only time will tell whether Nitish will change his own rule book due to political exigency, added another political observer.
