Bhagalpur: At least five kanwariyas were reportedly killed on intervening night of August 3 and 4 in Bihar's Bhagalpur district. The incident took place after a DJ music system installed atop a vehicle they were travelling in came in contact with a live wire, reported Hindustan Times. Two others are reported to be in a critical condition.
The deceased were part of a group of devotees who were going to Jayesthgaur Nathsthan to offer obeisance after carrying Ganga water from Sultanganj.
"A DJ vehicle came in contact with an electric wire and overturned, in which five people died on the spot. Efforts are being made to provide financial assistance to their families,” said Bhagalpur SSP Hridyakant, as reported by HT.
The incident reportedly took place at around 12 midnight on the last Monday of the holy month of Shravan. The victims were travelling in the vehicle, which came in contact with the live wire. At the time of the incident, nine people were travelling in the vehicle, while several other kanwariyas were on foot.
"The vehicle was stuck in the road. At the time of the incident, nine persons were travelling on the vehicle while dozens of kanwariyas were travelling on foot with the DJ sound systems. As the vehicle driver managed to get out from the mud, the sound systems came in contact with a low-hanging high-tension power line. The vehicle overturned in the roadside canal," the police officer stated as quoted by the media house.
Authorities rushed to the spot after receiving the information. The police are trying to locate the driver.
Six Kanwariyas Lost Their Lives In Jharkhand Last Month:
On July 29, at list six kanwariyas were killed and 24 others injured after their bus they were travelling in reportedly rammed into a truck in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district. Police said that the accident took place near Nawakura village in the Jamunia forest area under Mohanpur police station limits, when Kanwariyas after offering holy water on Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar were travelling to Baba Basukinath Dham, another major pilgrim centre in Jharkhand.
