Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a software professional was allegedly killed by another man after a quarrel over a cigarette in Karnataka’s Bengaluru. The incident, which took place on May 10, was captured on CCTV.
The accused, who works as a manager in a private company, had reportedly asked the victim, 29-year-old HN Sanjay, to fetch a cigarette for him. However, an argument broke out between the two after Sanjay refused to do so. The accused, 31-year-old Prateek, is a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, while the 29-year-old victim lived in the Vajarahalli area of the city.
On May 10, Sanjay was smoking a cigarette on the roadside along with his friend, Chetan Pujamath, reported IANS, quoting the police. The two had come out on a break. In the meantime, Prateek also arrived at the spot in his car and asked Sanjay to fetch a cigarette for him while sitting in the vehicle.
Police Official's Statement:
"On the morning of 10th May, around 4:00 AM, at Kolankunte Cross Subramanya Vyapthi, two individuals were drinking tea and standing by the roadside when a person arrived in a Creta and parked side. He asked the two men to get him a cigarette," DCP (South) Lokesh Jagalasar said as quoted by IANS.
"When they refused, a verbal argument broke out between them. After the argument, the two individuals finished their tea and left on a Yamaha bike. While they were on their way back, the same Creta vehicle came from behind and crashed into their bike," he added.
However, the victim refused to fetch the cigarette and also rebuked Prateek. It angered the accused. Local intervened and diffused the situation. Prateek left the spot and parked his car at a distance. When Sanjaya, along with his friend, was heading towards the office on his bike, Prateek came from behind and hit the two-wheeler.
Sanjay suffered a severe head injury after hitting the pavement and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Tuesday, May 13, reported IANS.
Chetan, who was riding pillion, also sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The accused was reportedly in an inebriated condition when he rammed his car into the vehicle.
The police are investigating the entire matter.
