A woman in Assam was arrested for allegedly killing her husband and pretending it was a stroke, then hinting at a dacoity to mislead investigators. The couple's teenage daughter and two boys have also been detained by police for their suspected involvement in the crime.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Uttam Gogoi, who was found dead at his residence in the Borbaruah area at Lahon Gaon in Dibrugarh on 25 July. However, the motive behind the murder has not been ascertained yet.
Boby Sonowal Gogoi, the wife of the deceased, and her daughter initially told the victim's brother that Uttam died after suffering a stroke.
"I immediately rushed to his residence but found his ear cut. I also found an open umbrella. Then I was told that a robbery appeared to have taken place in the house. If he died of a stroke, how is it that he sustained a cut on his ear?" NDTV quoted the victim's brother as saying.
Sensing something amiss, Uttam's brother approached the police. "We approached the police and today we learned that his wife, daughter and two others were arrested in connection with charges of murdering him," he said.
The two boys are said to have close connections with Boby and her daughter.
Dibrugarh's Senior Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Reddy, confirmed that Boby has been taken into custody whilst her daughter and the two boys have been detained. According to Reddy, the daughter has admitted to committing the crime, and legal proceedings will follow accordingly.
