Guntur: A police officer in Andhra Pradesh has been suspended after a disturbing video surfaced online, in which he is seen brutally beating three men on the roadside. The incident took place along the Tenali Highway in Guntur district.
In the viral video, three men, later identified as Victor, Babulal, and Rakesh, are seen sitting on the highway with their legs stretched out, while a uniformed policeman repeatedly strikes their feet with a stick. Another officer is seen pinning down one of the men’s legs with his shoes, ensuring they remain in position during the assault.

The video was shared by YSR Congress Party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu, who condemned the act and questioned the erosion of civil liberties. “They don’t have the right to beat you even if you do something wrong. This is ‘Babu’s rule’ without civil rights! Move… to fight for justice,” Rambabu wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
According to reports, the three men were allegedly under the influence of drugs and had earlier attacked a constable, prompting police action. However, instead of following due legal process, the officers reportedly took them to the Aithanagar area and subjected them to physical punishment, captured in the now-viral clip.
As the video gained traction on social media and drew heavy criticism from rights groups and opposition figures, police authorities moved quickly to suspend the officer seen carrying out the assault.
Officials stated that an inquiry has been launched into the matter. “Any form of custodial or public violence will not be tolerated. Appropriate disciplinary action is being taken,” a senior police official told The Hindu.
