New Delhi: The government has reportedly pushed back against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s call for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to label US President Donald Trump a "liar" in Parliament over his repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Senior sources in the government, speaking to News18, dismissed the suggestion as “immature” and added that India’s relationship with the United States cannot be reduced to a single comment.
“It’s adolescent on the part of Rahul to say the PM should call Trump a liar on the floor of the House,” a top government source told News18, adding that the Prime Minister had already addressed the matter in Parliament, saying clearly that “no world leader asked India to stop the war.”

According to News 18, officials underlined that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had earlier informed Parliament that there was no communication between Trump and Modi during Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister had also detailed his interaction with US Vice-President JD Vance, who warned of a potential Pakistani attack.
“On May 9, US Vice-President JD Vance tried to speak to me 3–4 times for over an hour, but I was in a meeting. When I called him back, he said Pakistan will do a very big attack. I replied to him, if Pakistan has this intention, toh usse bahut mehnga padega. I told Vance that we will do a bigger attack than Pakistan… that hum goli ka jawab gole se denge," the Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha.

‘Diplomacy Not Built on One Statement’
Government sources told News18 that it is wrong to evaluate a complex diplomatic relationship through isolated comments. Highlighting US support to India during the Doklam standoff, they said the India-US partnership is built on deep strategic trust.
“The Congress has been in power before, it should know how governments function,” a senior official said, advising the Opposition to approach foreign policy matters with greater responsibility.
