Chandigarh: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab on Sunday suspended its cop-turned-MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap for five years over `anti-party’ activities days after he questioned vigilance bureau (VB) action against Akali leader Bikram Majithia.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap, who is the AAP MLA from Amritsar North constituency has often spoken against some action of his own party’s government; he had questioned the action by the vigilance bureau (VB) against senior Akali leader Bikram Majithia who was arrested on June 25 last from his Amritsar house in a disproportionate assets (DA) case worth Rs 540 crore.
Terming Majithia’s arrest unethical, the former IPS officer-turned MLA questioned the arrest saying that the government had not sought his remand when he was arrested earlier and when he was granted bail by the court. He also held that whether one is a politician, an actor, rich or poor, friend or foe, conducting a raid at someone’s house early in the morning is against ethics.
In the past, Kunwar Vijay Pratap had also questioned AAP government’s intentions in the sacrilege cases and even accused AAP leaders of being hand in glove with the liquor mafia when condemning the recent tragic incident in which 27 people had died after consuming spurious liquor.
Pertinently, the MLA has also not been attending party meetings for the past few months
OPPN FLAYS AAP GOVT
Meanwhile, taking on the AAP, the Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said on X that the suspension of MLA Kunwar Pratap Singh is an internal matter of AAP but that in no way means that the AAP government does not owe answers to questions he has raised. Sacrilege and drugs remain unresolved. Party may have successfully tried to silence his voice, which it could not, it definitely cannot avoid the questions that have started being raised. The AAP government’s ``question hour’’ has begun and everyone knows it has no answers. It may suspend its MLA from the party, but what about 3 crore Punjabis who are asking the same questions Kunwar Vijay Pratap has been asking, Warring added.
