New Delhi: Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, landed in Delhi on Thursday, April 10, aboard a special flight, after his extradition from California on Wednesday, April 9.

The Pakistani-origin Canadian national is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in planning the deadly 2008 attacks that claimed 166 lives and shook the nation.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also released an official statement on the same. Have a look at it here:

After his landing, the 64-year-old was immediately taken into custody by the NIA and is expected to be produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court. According to reports, he may later be moved to Mumbai to face trial.

Rana faces multiple serious charges, including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Indian government, murder, forgery, and violations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

His extradition follows high-level consultations between Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Home Minister Shah hailed the extradition as a major diplomatic achievement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

The move came weeks after former US President Donald Trump publicly supported Rana’s extradition, calling him “very evil” and stating that he would face justice in India.

According to investigators, Rana aided his associate David Headley, a key planner of the 26/11 attacks, in carrying out surveillance missions in Mumbai.
