Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has strongly criticised the media after Rhea Chakraborty was given a clean chit by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Expressing her outrage, Dia called for an apology from the media, which had vilified Rhea in the aftermath of Sushant's tragic passing in 2020.

Taking to social media, Dia Mirza wrote, "Who in the media will have the grace to put out a written apology to Rhea Chakraborthy and her family? You went on a witch hunt. You caused deep anguish and harassment just for TRP's."

"Apologise. That's the very least you can do," Dia added. The actress tagged Rhea's official Instagram account and also added a red rose emoticon.

CBI closes SSR death case

The CBI officially closed the case on March 22, 2025, ruling out any foul play in the actor’s death. Sushant was found dead at his Bandra, Mumbai, residence on June 14, 2020, and the prolonged investigation has now concluded that it was a case of suicide.

Rhea, who was Sushant’s then-girlfriend, had faced severe public scrutiny and legal troubles after being accused by the late actor’s family of cheating, extortion, and illegal confinement. She was also charged with procuring drugs for Sushant and spent a month in jail after being arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

The media frenzy surrounding the case led to an intense smear campaign against Rhea, with multiple television debates and speculative reports painting her as a villain.

While Rhea has not yet reacted to the clean chit, her brother Showik Chakraborty shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. Posting a picture with his sister, he wrote, "Satyameva Jayate (Truth alone triumphs)", signifying their relief after years of legal and public scrutiny.

The case had gripped the nation, leading to heated debates on social media, television, and even political corridors. With the CBI’s final report ruling out any criminal involvement, voices from the industry, like Dia Mirza, are calling for accountability from the media.
