Actor Vikrant Massey, who starred alongside Deepika Padukone in the 2020 film Chhapaak, has shared his perspective on the ongoing conversation surrounding work-hour limits in Bollywood, following reports that Deepika opted out of Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, due to her demand for an eight-hour work shift.

The controversy erupted after several media reports claimed that Deepika, who recently became a mother, requested an eight-hour working day, fixed hours, and specific remuneration terms - conditions the filmmaker reportedly did not agree to. Her decision to walk out of Spirit has sparked debate in the industry about work-life balance, especially for women actors and new mothers.

Amid the chatter, Vikrant, in a recent interview with Firstpost, said that he too dreams of a day when he can work a fixed shift. "Maybe in a couple of years…I want to go out and say, we can collaborate, but I would only work for eight hours. But at the same time, it should be a choice," Vikrant said.

Acknowledging the financial and logistical challenges faced by producers, he added, "If my producer cannot accommodate that because there are also a lot of other things involved when you are making a film. Money plays a very important role and I will have to reduce my fees as I will be working for eight hours and not 12."

Vikrant further clarified, "If I cannot give my producer 12 hours a day, I cannot go out there and not reduce my fee. I ought to reduce my fee. It’s a give and take. Right?"

The actor also stated that as a young mother, Deepika 'deserves' eight-hour shift.

Meanwhile, Vikrant is currently busy with the promotions of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, which marks Shanaya Kapoor's debut. Directed by Santosh Singh, the film is all set to hit the big screens on July 11.
