Sky Force Review: In the past few years, we have watched many films that have been based on Indian Air Force like Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Bhuj: The Pride Of India, Tejas, Fighter, and Operation Valentine. Now, one more movie based on the backdrop of IAF is all set to hit the big screens on 24th January 2025. Yes, we are talking about Sky Force which stars Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahariya, Sara Ali Khan, and Nimrat Kaur in the lead roles.
The movie is set against the backdrop of the India and Pakistan war that took place in 1965. Pakistan's Air Force had advanced fighter planes given to them by America, and they attacked Amritsar Air Base in which many soldiers lost their lives. Now, India decides to take revenge, and Group Captain, K.O. Ahuja (Akshay Kumar), along with his soldiers enters Pakistan. During the mission Sky Force, one incident happens and IAF pilot, T. Vijaya (Veer Pahariya) goes missing, and then starts Ahuja's journey to find his soldier and get him back to India...
Sky Force is inspired by a true story based on the life of Vir Chakra Awardee, O.P. Taneja (K.O Ahuja), and Maha Vir Chakras awardee, Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya (T. Vijaya). The movie is written Sandeep Kewlani, Aamil Keeyan Khan, Carl Austin, and Niren Bhatt, and helmed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur. The first half of the film is majorly about the war and there some really good flying sequences, and even the emotional quotient is just perfect.
The second half also starts on a very promising note, but soon it dips. The runtime of the movie is just 125 minutes, but post interval it still looks stretched. The pace becomes quite slow and the climax also doesn't leave a strong mark. So, a good second half could have surely taken the movie to a better level.
It is a VFX heavy film, and the visual effects team has surely done a wonderful job. As we mentioned earlier, the flying sequences look beautiful on the big screens and also give us an adrenaline rush. So, of course, the VFX team deserves a special mention here.
Performance wise, it is an Akshay Kumar show. The actor has given a fantastic performance and this is a genre that he has nailed it earlier as well. Veer Pahariya makes his debut with this film, and he has a good screen presence. When it comes to acting, he has done a decent job. We wish to see him in a movie where he has a much bigger screen time. Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur have extended cameos, and they are good in their respective roles. In the supporting cast, it is Sharad Kelkar and Soham Majumdar who grab our attention.
While the background score is not that great, the songs Maaye and Rang do leave a mark. Also, it is fun to watch Akshay and Veer dance together in the track Rang.
Overall, Sky Force had the potential to be a better film if the second have was tighter. However, it is not a bad film, and you can surely watch it once, but don't go to theatres with high expectations. Also, a must watch for an Akshay Kumar fan!
