The trailer of the highly-anticipated film, Sky Force, starring Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, was released by the makers on Sunday. The film is reportedly based on true events from 1965 when India carried out its first-ever airstrike on Pakistan.
The trailer of Sky Force shows the Indian Air Force launching an airstrike on Pakistan after the neighbouring country attacked several air bases of India. However, during the operation, titled 'Mission Skyforce', Veer's fighter jet gets hit and he goes missing in the Pakistani territory.
Thus begins Akshay Kumar's quest to find Veer and bring him back home, to his country and to his wife, Sara Ali Khan.
Sky Force Real Story
The trailer highlighted that Sky Force is based on true events. For those unversed, the Indian and Pakistani Air Force came face to face in September 1965. It all began after Pakistan attacked several air bases in India, including Pathankot, Halwara and Adampur.
To avenge the attack, India attacked Sargodha in Pakistan, which was one of the biggest and most guarded air bases in Asia.
During the operation, Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya's aircraft was shot by an enemy aircraft, and he went missing in Pakistani territory. Despite multiple attempts by the Indian government to find him, he could not be traced, and was eventually presumed dead. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra 1988, 23 years after the operation.
Who Plays What In Sky Force?
Akshay will reportedly be seen playing the role of Group Captain OP Taneja, leader of the 13 aircraft contingent, in Sky Force. Veer, on the other hand, will be seen essaying the role of Devayya. His character, however, is named T Vijaya in the film. Sara Ali Khan will play his wife in the film.
Sky Force has been directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, and it also features Nimrat Kaur and Sharad Kelkar in key roles.
The film will release in theatres on January 24.
