Netflix’s much-talked about show, 'Indian Matchmaking', featuring Sima Taparia, has bagged a nomination at the 73rd Annual Emmy Awards.
The series that what released a year ago, bagged the nomination under the category: Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program. It will be competing against shows like RuPauls 'Drag Race: Untucked', 'Becoming', 'Below Deck' and 'Selling Sunset'.
Presented to TV shows, web series and documentaries for their phenomenal contribution to art and culture, the full list of Emmy nominees was announced on July 13.
'Indian Matchmaking' revolves around professional matchmaker Sima Taparia, who guides clients in the US and India in the arranged marriage process, offering an inside look at the custom in a modern era.
The audiences were quick to point out that the show reinstated sexist and patriarchal values. There are instances from the show where women are rejected because of their height, their religion and for being too demanding.
While it has been packaged as a reality show (a concept many tout as scripted), Desi Twitter had opened fire on the streaming honcho for letting a show of this sort make way to its platform.
Now, tweeple are in shock as the show has been nominated for Emmys. While some have called it 'regressive', others joked that Sima aunty's stars have finally aligned.
