Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt was arrested in Lahore recently for keeping a lion cub at his home illegally. He had received the cub as a wedding gift. Reportedly, Rajab had also kept several weapons in display. As per the latest development in the case, Rajab has been released on personal surety.
The YouTuber, who has 4.63 million subscribers on his channel, was arrested from his residence following a joint raid by the Punjab Wildlife Department and Police.
The concerned authorities acted after he had revealed in one of his vlogs that he received a newborn lion cub as a wedding gift. Soon after the video surfaced, the YouTuber was criticised for the illegal possession of an animal.
During the raid, officials also found a .223 calibre rifle and ammunition from his residence. "Such violations set a dangerous precedent and undermine the state's efforts to safeguard endangered species," an official said.
Before getting released, Rajab was reportedly shifted to a local police station for questioning and other investigation.
Rajab is known for his lavish lifestyle. He grabbed headlines recently because of his wedding to Emaan, which began with a grand Dholki and musical night in Lahore, attended by close friends and family.
However, the opulent celebrations sparked controversy after videos surfaced showing large amounts of cash being thrown at the couple and guests. Several popular YouTubers and TikTokers graced Rajab and Emaan's wedding celebrations.
