Q. How did your journey as a voice over artist begin?

It was sheer chance that I got to be in this profession. I never aspired to be a voice artist actually. I did my MBA, I had a perfectly fine job. Then I got transferred to Mumbai and a friend of mine suggested that I have a good voice and I should try doing voice overs. After that everything panned out nicely. I started my career with Dance India Dance in 2009. After that, all the reality shows on Zee TV have had my voice. I feel really lucky to be in a profession where I get to express myself in different voices, including my own.

Q. 'Corporate job to voice overs', how difficult was the transition?

The stars aligned, showed me the path, and I followed the path. It wasn't just by chance, I worked really hard to make a name in this field. However, I was fortunate enough that my hard work paid off. Sometimes in the creative field, you work hard but it doesn't work out. My decision to enter in this field wasn't sudden. It took me two and a half years to quit my job after realizing that I wanted to do voice overs. I utilized that time to prepare myself financially and worked hard on fine tuning my skills. Having a good voice is one thing and using that voice for recreating emotions is a different ball-game altogether. Even if you are gifted, you need to hone your skills. The whole transition was planned and thankfully, it worked out well.

Q. How do you take care of your voice?

Over a period of time after entering this profession, you realize your triggers, what suits you and what doesn't. I don't drink cold water. Consuming anything which is abnormally cold or hot will send shock waves in your vocal path. I also do a few breathing exercises as well.

Q. You made your OTT acting debut with the Family Man, how was the overall experience?

It was wonderful. I was at the right place at the right time. I met Mukesh Chhabra and he asked me if I wanted to audition for a part in a web series. That's how I got to play Ajit. It was just stars aligning together to get me that part. I was lucky to work alongside someone like Manoj Bajpayee who is such a stalwart.

Q. Are you happy with the way things have panned out in your career or do your feel you missed out on something?

One absolute feeling I have is the sense of gratitude. I am here, doing something I love and it is being admired. That's what actually matters the most. Through the whole process, I got to explore so many aspects of my personality. Acting also happened during this journey and the push to do better each day which I get in this profession is something I am grateful for.
