Bollywood superstar Salman Khan stirred up a massive storm after he was seen wearing the limited edition 'Ram Janmabhoomi' watch during the promotions of his upcoming film, Sikandar. And now, Barelvi cleric and All India Muslim Jamaat president Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi has slammed the actor, calling his act 'un-Islamic'.

Maulana Razvi said in his official statement that wearing the watch was "illegal" in Islam. "I have been asked about Shariat's ruling about Salman Khan. I tell you the Shariat's ruling about the work done by him, that he is wearing a Ram Edition watch made for the promotion of Ram Mandir. Wearing such a watch in hand being a Muslim is illegal and haram," he said, according to PTI.

The maulana further mentioned that since Salman is a big star with a massive Muslim fanbase, he should abstain from resorting to un-Islamic activities. "In such a situation, doing un-Islamic activities is against Shariat. He should avoid such activities and repent for the un-Islamic activities he has done," the maulana said.

Salman and his team are yet to issue an official statement on the row.

For those unversed, the limited watch worth Rs 34 lakh, has a detailed motif of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya on the dial, while the bezel carries inscriptions of Hindu Gods. Only 49 pieces of the limited edition watch were manufactured, and one of them is owned by Salman.

The Kick actor had revealed in an earlier interview that the watch was gifted to him by his mother Salma Khan, who was born with the name Sushila Charak in a Hindu household.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Salman is gearing up for the release of his highly-anticipated film, Sikandar, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, and others in key roles. The film, which marks the superstar's first collaboration with Ghajini director AR Murugadoss, is set to hit the silver screens on March 30, on the occasion of Eid.
