Bollywood actress Dia Mirza recently opened up about one of the most emotionally taxing experiences of her acting career. In of her interviews, Dia recalled filming the intense rape scene for the web series Kaafir, which released in 2019. The show also starred Mohit Raina.

During a conversation with CNN News 18, the 43-year-old actress opened up about the toll the rape scene took on her, both mentally and physically.

"I remember when we shot the rape scene, it was so hard. I was shaking physically after we got done with filming that scene. I remember throwing up. I vomited after we finished rolling that entire sequence. That's how emotionally and physically demanding those situations were. When you take your entire body into the truth of that moment, you feel it. You feel it in its full extent," Dia said.

In Kaafir, Dia played the role of Kainaaz Akhtar, a woman from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir who ends up in an Indian prison under suspicion of being a militant.

Reflecting on her process of bringing characters to life, Dia said, "The first and most important thing one needs to feel as an artist is empathy towards the character that you're playing and embodying. So that when you play, you're absolutely true to the story and to everything within it."

She further revealed how deeply the character impacted her personally. "Playing Kainaaz actually made me a mother much before I became a biological mother. It was because of the kind of intensity and ferocity and love and protectiveness I felt for her while working on the show," she added.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Dia was last seen in Nadaaniyan. She played the role of a teacher and Ibrahim Ali Khan's mother in the film. The actress has not announced any of her upcoming projects yet.
