Actress Radhika Apte, who welcomed her first child in December 2024, revealed during a recent chat that a Bollywood filmmaker denied her access to a doctor when she was pregnant and was feeling unwell. She shared that she was extremely disheartened by the incident.
Speaking at Neha Dhupia's Freedom To Feed session, Radhika shared that when she conceived her first child, an Indian producer she was already shooting with during that time, "was not happy" about the news. "He responded coldly and even insisted I wear tight-fitting clothes despite my discomfort and bloating," she said.
While the actress did not reveal the filmmaker's name, she recalled her harrowing experience, and said, "I was in my first trimester and had constant cravings, I was eating a lot, be it rice or pasta and going through the usual physical changes, but instead of understanding, I was met with insensitivity."
"I wasn’t even allowed to see a doctor when I was in pain and feeling uneasy on set. That truly disheartened me," she added.

Radhika then highlighted how the situation was exactly opposite when she was working on an international project during the same time. "The Hollywood filmmaker I was working with was so supportive. When I mentioned I was eating more than usual and might look like a completely different person by the end of the shoot, he laughed and said, ‘Don’t worry, even if you’re another person by the end of this project, it’s fine. Because you’re pregnant.’ That reassurance and warmth meant the world to me," she shared.
Radhika added that while she understood that she had professional commitments and everyone was running on tight schedules, all she was expecting was little empathy from the Bollywood filmmaker.
"I wasn’t expecting special treatment, just kindness and basic humanity after sharing such a personal and joyous piece of news," she said.
Radhika got married to musician Benedict Taylor in 2013, and for the longest time, she kept her personal life away from the media glare. In October 2024, she announced her pregnancy, and in December, welcomed her baby girl.
On the work front, Radhika was last seen in the 2024 film, Sister Midnight. The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
