Actress Hina Khan, who is currently battling stage 3 breast cancer, revealed that she was the original choice for Imtiaz Ali's hit film, Laila Majnu, but she lost the role to Triptii Dimri due to a shocking reason. The actress revealed that she was replaced due to her skin colour and the makers did not find her 'Kashmiri enough'.
According to a report in Bollywood Life, Hina was the first choice for Laila Majnu, which starred Avinash Tiwary as the male lead. However, she was ousted from the film and replaced by Triptii at the very last minute, and it left her heartbroken.
Hina reportedly said that she was replaced because of her wheatish skin colour, as the film was about a Kashmiri girl and boy. She shared the makers wanted someone fairer, who would suit the part, and hence, they got Triptii on board.
Hina revealed that the makers also told her that she did not look 'Kashmiri enough', when in reality, the actress actually belongs to a Kashmiri family. She added that she herself was shocked knowing the reason behind her losing the movie, but she decided to move on instead of being upset about it.
Laila Majnu flopped at the box office when it released in 2018, but the film was then re-released in 2024, and it went on to become a rage. Theatres were rendered houseful and it surpassed even the new releases in theatres, with the audience calling the film an 'underrated gem'.
Meanwhile, Hina is currently juggling her cancer treatment, chemotherapy and work. Despite her health condition, the actress has not shied away from taking up work and fulfilling her professional commitments.
She was last seen in the show Griha Laxmi, which showed her journey from a harmless homemaker to a fearless leader in the drug underworld.
