Emraan Hashmi's Ground Zero has become the first Bollywood film to have a premiere in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar city after 38 years. A special screening of of the film was held on Friday (April 18) for Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. The event saw emotional and proud moments as jawans watched the film alongside the entire cast and crew.
The screening was attended by the film’s lead actors Emraan and Sai Tamhankar, director Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, and producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar, and co-producer Arhan Bagati.
During an interaction with ANI, Emraan shared insights into the film's vision. "This is the first time a film has been made solely to honour the BSF. We have seen stories based on the Indian Army and police before, but Ground Zero is a tribute to BSF officers, their courage, and the sacrifices they have made for the country. That, in itself, is a significant milestone," he said.
Calling the mission portrayed in the film a 'defining operation' in India's national security landscape, the actor highlighted the story’s relevance. "It’s a mission that played a crucial role in safeguarding the nation. The story deserves to be told, and more importantly, it deserves to be seen," he added.
On the film's screening and production in Kashmir, Emraan stated, "This is a positive step for the people of Kashmir. I hope more films are shot here. Kashmiris are gracious and respectful. I always wanted to return and I'm glad to be back."
Set in early 2000s Kashmir, Ground Zero is inspired by real events and tells the story of a crucial BSF-led mission against terrorism. Emraan plays BSF Commandant Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who spearheads the operation to neutralise terrorist mastermind Ghazi Baba. Sai portrays the role of his wife.
The film, billed as the first-ever cinematic tribute dedicated solely to the BSF, is set to release in theatres on April 25, 2025.
