The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the Maharashtra government to grant tax exemption to Chhaava, the historical drama starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, was released in theatres on February 14 and has been receiving appreciation for portraying the Maratha king's legacy and bravery.
In an official statement on Tuesday (February 18), FWICE confirmed that it has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting tax exemption for the film.
The federation emphasised the importance of ensuring that Chhaava reaches a wider audience, as the film is based on the courage and contributions of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

"We appeal that the movie reaches a wider audience as the legacy and courage of this great Maratha king should be known to the generations to come. Our government strongly believes in 'Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah', and this movie portrays exactly the same sentiments through the life story of the great Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj," read FWICE's official statement.
The federation further reiterated that Chhaava should not only reach audiences in Maharashtra but across the country, as it narrates an important chapter of Indian history. "FWICE has written to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and appealed to him to grant tax exemption to the Hindi film Chhaava. We strongly believe that the movie should reach people not only in Maharashtra but across the nation," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the film has been performing well at the box office. According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, Chhaava has amassed Rs 195.60 crore worldwide. The period drama, produced by Maddock Films, also features Akshaye Khanna in a pivotal role.
