Megastar Chiranjeevi is receiving backlash for his recent sexist comment at the pre-release event of RVS Nikhil's upcoming film Brahma Anandam. During the event, the actor expressed his desire for a grandson to carry forward his legacy. He also joked that being surrounded by females at home makes him feel like he is living in a 'ladies' hostel'. His comments have sparked criticism online, with many calling them 'regressive'.
Several videos have surfaced on social media in which he is heard saying, "When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around."
He added, "I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye... I'm scared that he might again have a girl."
Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Konidela were blessed with a baby girl in June 2023 after 11 years of marriage. They named their daughter Klin Kaara Konidela.

Reacting to the megastar's video, a user asked on X, "I have respect for you as an actor. However, I would appreciate some clarification on your recent statement. It came across as misogynistic and seemed to imply that a legacy can only be carried forward by a male child or men. Did you truly mean to suggest this? Are you uncomfortable with the possibility of your son and daughter-in-law having another girl child? Or was it 'remark' made in 'jest' at Brahmanandam’s film event?"
Others also defended Chiranjeevi and stated that he said it jokingly.
"When you talk about caring nature and being affectionate..chiranjeevi garu recently gifted about 100 crore worth lands in hyderabad to his sisters..he loves his family like anything even beyond yor imagination..so without knowing anything ,pls don't talk about chiranjeevi garu," wrote a fan.
"You don't have any rights to talk about his personals and opinions,limit your opinions to only movies. Even hero has their personal opinions better you respect that," wrote another user.
