Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly has responded to a derogatory remark made by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Nilanjan Das, who called her a "flop soap actress" after she questioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's governance.
The controversy began when Rupali reacted to Mamata Banerjee's recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), where the West Bengal Chief Minister commented on the BJP's political agenda in Assam. Taking a dig at the CM, Rupali urged the leader to focus on issues in her own state instead.
"Before shedding crocodile tears for Bengalis in other states, Mamata Didi must answer who will protect Bengalis in West Bengal itself? From Sandeshkhali to Murshidabad, the only atrocities on Bengalis are happening under her watch. Bengal has never been more unsafe for its own people," the actress wrote on X.

TMC's Nilanjan Das did not take kindly to the criticism and hit back, writing, "The seniormost stateswoman of India doesn't need lectures from a flop soap actress (sic)."
The comment triggered sharp reactions online, with many fans rallying behind the actress. Rupali herself delivered a powerful comeback.
The actress replied, "Isn't your so-called 'senior-most stateswoman' a public servant, or she's a dictator who can't be questioned? But if you've already accepted her tyranny instead of her duty to the people, then congratulations on embracing dictatorship. Classic TMC behaviour."
Reacting to Rupali's reply, a fan wrote, "Rupali you are a success story. Thanks for improving your X game too."
Another commented, "My savage queen is back."
Rupali is quite active on X and she often shares her views and opinions on various political and social issues. She also never shies away from giving befitting replies to trolls on social media platforms.
In May 2024, Rupali had joined the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
Rupali began her acting career as a child artist in films like Saaheb (1985), but rose to fame with TV shows such as Sanjivani and the cult comedy Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, where she played the iconic Monisha.
With her powerful portrayal in Anupamaa, she redefined her career, becoming one of Indian television's most beloved and highest-paid actresses.
