The reality show, House Arrest, hosted by actor Ajaz Khan on Ullu app, has now been removed from the platform after being accused of promoting obscenity and vulgarity online. It all began after a clip from the show went viral in which Ajaz was seen asking two contestants to demonstrate sex positions on camera.
While the show was available on the Ullu app, primarily known for adult-rated content, until Thursday, viewers noticed on Friday that the show had been pulled down.
Action was taken against the show after it was bashed online for its content and Ajaz was accused of forcing women to perform obscene acts on camera for the sake of views. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Ullu CEO Vibhu Agarwal and Ajaz on May 9 after taking suo motu cognisance of the controversy.
"Viral clips show women being coerced into intimate acts on camera. NCW slams the platform for promoting vulgarity & violating consent," it said in a post on X.
In the midst of the controversy, actress Gehana Vasisth, who is one of the contestants on House Arrest, slammed netizens for seeking a ban on the show and asked why no action was taken against those who consumed pornographic content online.
She also said in a video, "When Priyanka Chopra does nude scenes in Hollywood or Radhika Apte went topless in Sacred Games, at that time no one felt that they were promoting obscenity? When Netflix shows such content, it's fine, but when people coming from small towns try to create a show on their own, they are questioned and accused of promoting vulgarity."
The makers of House Arrest are yet to issue an official statement.
