Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a virtually one-sided Lok Sabha election, BJP candidate for the city parliamentary seat Shankar Lalwani created a record of 'unprecedented victory; in the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday. Lawani won by the gigantic margin of 1175,092 votes. No candidate has yet achieved a whopping victory with such a margin. He defeated BSP candidate Sanjay Solanki. NOTA too created a record, with the highest number of votes polled in this election.
While the BJP is not looking happy at the total number of seats won in the 18th Lok Sabha election, the party can take pride that its candidate from the city parliamentary seat has created the national record. In the voting held on May 13, a total of 1326751 voters exercised their franchise, out of which 759 votes were rejected. In the counting of the votes held on Tuesday at Nehru Stadium, among the 14 candidates fighting the Lok Sabha elections, BJP Shankar Lalwani obtained 1226,751 votes.
His nearest rival BSP candidate Sanjay Solanki managed to get merely 51,659 votes. The third highest vote-getter was Pawan Kumar of Akhil Bhartiya Parivar Party, who received 15,210 votes. The rest of the 11 candidates could get votes in just four figures. Congress candidate Akshay Kanti Bam had withdrawn his nomination papers at the last minute.
An interesting aspect of the vote counting was that after Lalwani it was NOTA with 2,18,674 votes. Analysts are claiming that this is the highest number of votes cast in favour of NOTA in any parliamentary elections.
Earlier in the day, the strong rooms were opened in the presence of candidates and representatives of the political parties sharp at 6 am at Nehru Stadium and the counting of votes of postal ballots began at 8 am and subsequently the counting of votes from EVMs started from 8.30 am. The non-stop counting of the votes of all 8 assembly constituencies of the city parliamentary seat ended at around 3 pm. BJP candidate Lalwani obtained the highest votes in all 8 assembly seats.
Indore is a General category Parliamentary constituency, i.e., not reserved for any specific category. This constituency, covering a part of the Indore district, currently comprises eight assembly segments, Depalpur, Indore-1, Indore-2, Indore-3, Indore-4, Indore-5, Rau, and Sanwer (SC).
District election officer hands election certificate to Lalwani
At 4 pm collector and district election officer, Asheesh Singh handed over the election certificate to the winning candidate, BJP's Shankar Lalwani in the Media Centre at Nehru Stadium. On this occasion, senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, minister Tulsiram Silawat, MLAs Golu Shukla and Madhu Verma were also present.

BJP vs NOTA
BJP's incumbent MP from Indore, Shankar Lalwani is contesting again from the seat, while Congress has fielded Akshay Bam as its candidate, but he pulled back his nomination paper and switched his sides to the saffron party. Two days after this happening, the Congress party held a meeting in Indore and decided that they would campaign for NOTA in the constituency for LS polls 2024.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Pankaj Sanghvi of the INC received 5.2 lakh votes, while Shankar Lalwani of the BJP won with 10.6 lakh votes from the Indore Lok Sabha constituency. By 5.4 votes, Pankaj Sanghvi was defeated.
2014 Lok Sabha elections
In 2014, Sumitra Mahajan (tai) of the BJP emerged victorious from the Indore Lok Sabha constituency, with 8.5 lakh votes, while Satyanarayan Patel of the INC received 3.8 lakh votes.

As per the 2011 Census, the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh had a population of 32.76 lakh of which 16.9 lakh were males and 15.7
were females. The average sex ratio was 928 and the literacy rate stood at 80.87%. Out of this population, 74.1% people lived in urban and 25.9% in rural areas. Scheduled Caste (SC) constituted 16.6% while Scheduled Tribe (ST) were 6.6% of the district’s population. Hindus were 83.26%, Muslim 12.67%, and Jain 2.19%, among other religious groups.
Counting begins in Indore at 8 am

The vote counting in Indore started at 8am on Tuesday. The counting is going on at the city's Nehru Stadium. First of all all the documents were verified and followed the counting of postal ballots.
The fate of 14 candidates is going to be revealed on Tuesday. However, all eyes are set on the '15th candidate' this time, which happens to be NOTA.

9:30 AM: Indore LS Election Update (Round-1)
In the Indore Lok Sabha constituency, sitting MP Shankar Lalwani from BJP is leading with a commanding 88.6% of the votes. As Akshay Kanti Bam defected from Congress to join the BJP at the last minute, prompting the opposition to campaign for NOTA (None of the Above).
The constituency saw a voter turnout of 61.67% on May 13, 2024.

As of 10 Am, BJP's Shankar Lalwani has secured over 1.7 votes. Where as BSP's Sanjay Solanki is stuck with 6483 votes.

The Congress candidate is absent in Indore LS seat and NOTA stopped after getting 61,850 votes.
