Viral Video: A shocking event took place on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powai campus in Mumbai, when a crocodile was spotted walking on the road. The reptile had escaped from the Padmavati Temple Lake nearby. A chilling video of the crocodile walking on the road went viral, and people were left in fear.

The incident happened on Sunday night, between 7-8 pm, for which prompt action was taken by the Forest Department. The municipal authorities and forest officials reacted quickly to maintain public safety. The incident was caught on camera and went viral within minutes on social media, along with photographs.

The video is uploaded on X by the user name Raj Maji. While sharing the video he wrote, "A startling incident unfolded on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powai campus in Mumbai, as a crocodile was spotted roaming on the road. The reptile had escaped from the lake near the Padmavati Temple, Lake Site. A chilling video captured the crocodile's stroll on the road, sparking widespread fear among locals. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, between 7-8 pm, prompting citizens to promptly alert Forest Department officials."

It is not the first time a crocodile has visited the streets of the region. Raising questions on both wildlife safety as well as urban space planning.

Wildlife conservation and ecological planning require serious consideration in light of the repeated observations of crocodiles in urban regions. They are now contemplating increased surveillance along the lake’s periphery, as well as further steps that could ensure such tragedies don’t occur again.
