Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, a 22-year old student of Panjab University, was stabbed to death in a violent clash of two groups of students after a musical concert here on the varsity campus late Friday night.

According to police, Aditya Thakur, who was among four students stabbed, succumbed to his injuries at Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here on Saturday.

Thakur, a native of Nalagarh town of Himachal Pradesh, was a second year student of computer science engineering at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET). The concert of Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma, was organised by Panjab University South Campus.

According to information, at least four students including Thakur, were attacked by a group of ``outsiders’’ who had scaled the campus walls from adjoining Sector 25. The police said that it had registered a case murder against some ``unidentified’’ attackers and the investigation into the case is on.

Meanwhile, the Dean, Students Welfare, PU, Amit Chauhan, held that the PU would proceed after the police report.

The other three students stabbed in the clash, including one from Chandigarh University, Gharuan, admitted in the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, here, were said to be out of danger.

The musical concert was organised by PU Campus Students Council, joint secretary, Jasvinder Rana, who was booked recently, in a brawl case at ABVP office in Sector 15.

The Chandigarh administration had allowed the concert on PU campus despite police’s concerns regarding crowd management on the campus. Notably, the police had denied permission for the concert of Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan on March 25 last, flagging space constraints near the concert spot.

Notably, it was the second death of the PU campus in four months’ time after the death of a visitor in a PU hostel due to drug overdose in November, 2024.
