From Science Classrooms to Civil Services
Shakti's educational background is in science. She did her schooling in Allahabad and then pursued a BSc from Allahabad University. Continuing her interest in the sciences, she did her post-graduation in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 2016.
On the surface, her educational trajectory was quite distant from public administration. Yet, her trajectory took a definitive turn in 2018, when she decided to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services, motivated by a deep-seated desire to serve the country.

Having a science background, Shakti went ahead and chose Political Science and International Relations as her optional subjects—a choice that spoke of her readiness to adapt and her pragmatic nature. It was an unconventional choice, indeed, but one that worked out in the best possible manner.

Shakti’s UPSC journey was not without its challenges. Over the course of seven years, she remained committed to her goal, supported unwaveringly by her family. In a mock interview during her preparation phase, she had said,“This achievement is as much theirs as it is mine,” highlighting the emotional and moral strength her loved ones provided throughout.

When the news of her leadership status spread, there was celebration throughout Prayagraj. There was joy, pride, and a steady stream of visitors—friends, neighbors, and well-wishers—who flocked to shower the new UPSC topper with congratulations at her home.
