Initially due on January 6, the first-semester results of several departments at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai remain undisclosed, leaving students anxious and frustrated. The deadline for releasing results of the School of Social Work and the School of Management and Labour Studies was extended to January 31, but the administration is yet to announce them.

Despite repeated inquiries from students, the management has remained silent about the reasons for the delay and the expected date of declaration. Meanwhile, results for the School of Health Systems Studies, also initially due on January 6, were finally released after midnight on February 23.

Frustrated by the prolonged uncertainty, students have voiced their concerns through various channels, including a formal email from the Progressive Students Forum (PSF) to the administration. “This delay is causing anxiety among students, especially as the second semester has begun and fee payment deadlines are approaching,” the PSF wrote, urging the authorities to expedite the release of results and offer an explanation for the hold-up.

The lack of transparency has intensified student discontent, as many believe the delay is affecting their academic progress. “Our courses are evaluated on the basis of assignments, which carry a 50% weightage, and the semester exam carries the rest 50% weightage. There is a six-credit fieldwork as well. Even after more than a month of the second semester starting, how would we understand where we need to improve to get better grades if the results have not been announced?” asked a first-year Social Work student, speaking to The Free Press Journal on condition of anonymity.

Adding to their frustration, students claim they were not officially informed about the extended deadline. “The extension of the deadline to January 31 was also never communicated to us by any official channel. It was a guesswork from the students that the results were to be declared by then because other schools' results were also due by January 31. But even after that, and even after several requests, the management has not communicated on when the results will be announced,” said another first-year student at TISS.

The delay has sparked concerns about the institution’s administrative efficiency, with students and faculty alike demanding accountability. The lack of communication has only deepened the frustration, leaving students in limbo as they struggle to plan their academic trajectory. With the second semester already underway and key academic deadlines looming, the pressure is mounting on TISS Mumbai to address the situation urgently and provide much-needed clarity.
