Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin Inaugurates 4 New Govt Arts & Science Colleges For Rural Students

Chennai: Four new government arts and science colleges to cater to the higher education needs of the rural youth in Tamil Nadu were inaugurated on Friday by Chief Minister M K Stalin.

This takes the total number of such state-run colleges to 191. The new colleges were inaugurated by the chief minister through a video conference from the Secretariat here.

The colleges that have come up at K V Kuppam in Vellore district, Thuraiyur in Tiruchirappalli district, Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi district, and Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district, will be operational from the academic year 2025-26.

In addition, the CM inaugurated buildings, including quarters for the Vice-Chancellor, Assistant Professors and non-teaching staff, constructed at a cost of Rs 36.18 crore at Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore district, on behalf of the Higher Education Department.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiaan, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam, and senior officials were present at the function.

The chief minister is scheduled to inaugurate the renovated Valluvar Kottam, a familiar landmark in the city, on June 21.

About Rs 80 crore was spent by the state government recently to improve amenities, such as providing AC in the ground floor hall having a seating capacity of 1,500, and installing digital screens and audio systems displaying Thirukkural, authored by Tamil savant Thiruvalluvar.
