NEET UG 2024 Controversy: In relation to the NEET-UG 2024 examination, severe cases of malpractice have surfaced, leading to a large-scale investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Official sources have confirmed that certain MBBS students indulged in unethical practices like the use of leaked question papers and impersonation of other candidates, as reported by news agency ANI.

Accordingly, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed medical colleges to suspend 26 MBBS students who were guilty of engaging in these acts. Besides, admissions of 14 students for the 2024–25 academic year have been revoked because of their engagement in a similar involvement in similar misconduct during the exam.

After a thorough examination done by the Unfair Means (UFM) Committee of the National Testing Agency (NTA), further disciplinary actions have been taken. A total of 42 applicants have been debarred from appearing for the NEET-UG exam for 3 consecutive years 2024, 2025, and 2026. Nine more applicants have been given a two-year ban covering 2025 and 2026.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, the NTA has also suspended the candidature of 215 students. Their ultimate status will be decided after the inquiry is concluded, according to the ANI reports.

The NMC has reaffirmed that any compromise in the integrity of the medical entrance process is a direct threat to the quality of medical education and public confidence in the healthcare system. Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards academic dishonesty, the Commission stated that it continues to be committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in medical admissions.
