Mumbai: The University of Mumbai (MU) on Friday extended the deadline for pre-admission online registration for undergraduate courses for the academic year 2025–2026. Aspiring students can now complete their online enrolment until 1:00 PM on May 26 by visiting the university’s official admissions portal [https://mu.ac.in/admission].
The decision to extend the deadline, MU said, comes in the wake of ongoing implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the state government’s resolution dated April 20, 2023, which aims to streamline admissions under the new academic framework featuring three-year undergraduate degrees, four-year honours and honours with research programmes, and five-year integrated undergraduate-postgraduate programmes with multiple entry and exit options.
As of now, the University has already received 2,25,556 registrations, and a total of 5,09,578 applications have been submitted by 1,45,087 students across various undergraduate courses. The university has made it mandatory for students seeking admission to the first year of non-professional degree programmes to complete the pre-admission online registration process.
The courses for which admissions are being conducted include traditional degrees such as Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), and Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), along with a wide range of specialised and integrated programmes.
These include BA in Film, Television and New Media Production, BA in French Studies, BA in German Studies, Bachelor of Culinary Art, integrated BA-MA courses in German Studies and Pali, and the five-year integrated Bachelor of Management Studies-MBA programme.
Students can also apply for specialised commerce degrees such as BCom in Financial Markets, Accounting and Finance, Banking and Insurance, Financial Management, Investment Management, Transport Management, and Management Studies.
The science stream offers diverse options ranging from BSc in Information Technology, Computer Science, Microbiology, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Maritime Hospitality Studies, Nautical Science, and Forensic Science to newer fields like Data Science, Aeronautics, Aviation, and Human Science.
Vocational courses offered under the B.Voc banner include Training and Hospitality Management, Retail Management, Facility Management and Services, Real Estate Management, Medical Lab Technology, Greenhouse Management, Pharma Analytical Science, Tourism and Travel Management, Software Development, and Interior Design.
Additionally, courses like B.LIB.Sc., B.Music, Bachelor of Performing Arts (Music and Dance), and the five-year integrated BSc in Bioanalytical Sciences are part of the admission process.
Dr. Pooja Raundale, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, said, “all admissions to the first year of degree programmes and their academic activities will be conducted strictly in accordance with the provisions and guidelines laid out under NEP 2020, as well as directions issued by the Government of Maharashtra, MU, and the University Grants Commission (UGC).”
She added that all affiliated and autonomous colleges must adhere to the revised admission schedule and must carry out admissions strictly within sanctioned intake limits, following reservation policies and eligibility norms.
The updated schedule stipulates that sale of admission forms, both online and offline, will continue until 1:00 PM on May 26. The same deadline applies to pre-admission online registration and submission of admission forms. The first merit list will be announced on May 27 at 5:00 PM, followed by online verification of documents and fee payment between May 28 and 30.
The second merit list is scheduled for release on May 31 at 7:00 PM, with document verification and fee submission from June 2 to 4. The third merit list will be published on June 5 at 7:00 PM, and final admissions for this round must be completed between June 6 and 10. Orientation and commencement of classes for first-year undergraduate students will begin on June 13.
Dr. Raundale also cautioned that the principals and managements of colleges will be held accountable for any deviation from the approved intake capacity, eligibility norms, or reservation guidelines.
She further noted that admissions to the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) programme, which falls under the purview of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will be announced separately following the results of the entrance examination conducted by the Maharashtra CET Cell.
