Mumbai: The University of Mumbai (MU) has confirmed that the nationwide mock drill set for Wednesday, May 7, will not affect any scheduled examinations. In a circular issued on Tuesday, the university reassured students and faculty that all exams, including those at affiliated colleges, will proceed as planned without disruption.
In an official circular issued on Tuesday by the Examinations and Evaluation Board of MU, the administration made it clear that all stakeholders must ensure that students are not misled or confused by the concurrent drill activity.
"Directors of various academic departments of the University, Principals of affiliated colleges, Heads of recognised institutions, Professors and Directors of Distance and Online Education Centres, and Coordinators/Directors of the University’s Ratnagiri, Thane and Kalyan sub-campuses are hereby brought to the notice that tomorrow on May 07, 2025, all the examinations of the University and its affiliated colleges will be held at the scheduled time, and all concerned should take note that there will be no confusion among the students in this regard," the circular stated.
The directive was signed by Dr Pooja Raundale, Director of the Examinations and Evaluation Board. The nationwide mock drill, prompted by the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, has been mandated by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to bolster emergency preparedness. Maharashtra is among the states where civil and educational institutions have been asked to participate.
The drill is expected to include the participation of district controllers, local authorities, civil defence wardens, home guards (active and reserve), National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), and student volunteers from schools and colleges.
Preparedness measures will include the activation of air raid warning sirens, implementation of blackout procedures, camouflaging of critical infrastructure, updating and rehearsing evacuation plans, and public training in civil-defence techniques aimed at self-protection during a potential hostile threat.
Despite the scale of the drill, Mumbai University has instructed all colleges to carry out the examinations without interruption and to ensure that communication is clear to avoid any anxiety or misinformation among students.
