The Directorate of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary), Maharashtra, on Monday extended the registration deadline for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) online admission process for the academic year 2025-26. The registration, which began on May 26, was initially set to conclude on June 3 at 6:00 PM. However, following a government resolution dated May 6 and a subsequent directive issued on May 31, the deadline has now been extended to June 5 at 2:00 PM to accommodate updates to the admission process.

The revised guidelines introduce significant changes to the in-house quota system for admissions to higher secondary schools and junior colleges. Under the updated rules, private management institutions will have 10% of their seats reserved under the in-house quota. For higher secondary schools, junior colleges, and senior colleges in Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburbs, and Thane, one unit will be filled under this quota from affiliated schools. In the remaining districts of Maharashtra, one unit will be reserved for schools within the same institution, determined by revenue district boundaries. To reflect these changes, the official admission portal has updated the list of junior colleges and their affiliated schools.

The Directorate urges all eligible students and their parents to complete their registrations on the official website, https://mahafyjcadmissions.in, before the revised deadline of June 5 at 2:00 PM. The admission schedule published earlier remains unchanged, and students are encouraged to act promptly to secure their place in the FYJC admission process.

As of Monday, June 2, a total of 10,86,852 students have registered for FYJC admissions across Maharashtra. The division-wise breakdown is as follows: Mumbai Division recorded the highest number of registrations at 2,65,900, followed by Pune Division with 1,87,925. Nashik Division saw 1,12,108 registrations, while Kolhapur Division accounted for 1,07,012. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division registered 1,00,040 students, Nagpur Division had 95,210, Amravati Division recorded 98,359, and Latur Division saw 58,586 registrations. Additionally, 61,712 registrations were categorised under ‘Other'

The admission process faced initial technical challenges, with the portal crashing on May 21—when the registration process was scheduled to begin—due to nearly 15 lakh simultaneous access attempts. After enhancements to improve mobile compatibility and system stability, registrations resumed on May 26, with 2,58,887 students registering on the first day alone. The provisional merit list is expected on June 5, followed by a correction window from June 6 to 7, with the final merit list on June 8 and college allotments beginning on June 10.
