History of Patwa Toli's engineer

Patwa Toli was renowned as the Manchester of Bihar before it became a village of IITians. This is where the textile industry began decades ago. There are about 8,000 power looms in the 20,000-person town.

When Jitendra Kumar, the son of a loom maker, made history around 1991 by becoming the first person from the region to be accepted into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Patwa Toli's journey with the IITs officially started. A wave of ambitious engineers was inspired by his achievement, which served as a catalyst.

The establishment of Nav Skill Prayas, a group started by Jitendra Kumar, is where it all began. The people came together in the face of financial difficulties to ensure that their kids would not only escape the bonds of poverty but also become engineers. As a result of their combined efforts, a novel educational model was created that serves as a supporting environment for prospective IITians and offers free education.

With a consistent stream of achievement, Patwa Toli has generated almost 300 engineering graduates in the last 25 years, turning the town into an "IITian factory." A vital part of providing all-encompassing educational support is the Vriksha Sanstha, previously known as Nav Skill Prayas, which makes sure that every child, regardless of financial situation, can fulfil their desire to attend IIT.
