IIT Bombay has yet again proved to be the favourite of the best JEE Advanced 2025 rankers in the first round of seat allotment by JoSAA. Based on information released by IIT Kanpur, which is conducting this year's JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling, 78 of the top 100 rankers have opted for admission to IIT Bombay. Out of the top 10 rankers, nine had sought counselling and all nine chose this highly prestigious Mumbai-based centre.
The trend extends even beyond the top 100 as well. As per media reports, out of the top 500 rankers, 185 have been placed at IIT Bombay. Likewise, 258 students from the top 1,000 ranks have been assigned to this institute. Though the particular courses have not been disclosed, it is more or less expected that Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is still the most sought-after course, as it has been for the past years.
Other prominent IITs like Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, and Kharagpur also enrolled a large number of top performers. Surprisingly, IIT Hyderabad, being one of the newer IITs, is also becoming popular, with five among the top 500 opting for it.

A total of 2,58,765 candidates applied for JoSAA counselling this year. There are 1,91,935 male candidates and 66,829 female candidates, and there is one transgender candidate. There are 18,160 available seats across the 23 IITs.
Even though they had qualified, 3,001 students did not appear for JoSAA counselling, among them being one candidate from the top 10 and two from the top 1,000 ranks. As per the media reports, their reasons behind opting out have not been revealed.
